Overview of Goodwill Bicycles PDF Print E-mail

This mission collects unwanted bicycles in Australia and then distributes them to developing countries.

Our aim is to deliver as many bicycles as possible to as many people as possible in as many places as needed in Australia and overseas.

The indigenous Australian population who live in remote areas are our main focus in Australia.

Our overseas contingent is focusing on various African and other countries that would benefit greatly by this form of sustainable transport.

However there are difficulties with overseas shipping and distribution. These are gradually being overcome by working hand in hand with organisations and groups with a similar focus. We are gradually achieving the results we all aspire towards.

This is a difficult mission to organise but dedication yields results.

Any groups, organisations or companies that wish to assist in any way are most welcome to contact us.

Bicycles are an environmentally friendly means of transport, are easily maintained and cost efficient. Bicycles speed up the economy by carrying goods, running messages and aiding the sick. Bicycles are extremely versatile. Bicycles are also adaptable into other useful commodities such as:

  • Transport for disabled people,
  • Pumps,
  • Windmills,
  • Transportation of goods.

By being involved in a goodwill gesture, based on compassion people feel a greater sense of self worth. By recycling Australian unwanted bicycles to those less fortunate in other countries is a worthwhile cause. In assisting the less fortunate, acts of charity are always smiled upon.

This is an easy exercise to make a difference in a person's life.

At present we have around 500 bicycles that are in good condition, ready for distribution.

Due to the storage situation and logistical support at present, we are not able to expand the number of bicycles we wish to achieve at the moment. Our goal is 50,000 a year. This requires a dedicated team to achieve this amount. We believe the bicycles are available and it is a matter of organisation, commitment and of course sponsorship or funding to speed up the entire process.

We are always eager to hear from people with suggestions and contacts. This project will become huge in time and we consider ourselves pioneers at this time.
